Araku Valley Part 2

On Wednesday our taxi driver took us into the mountains for a trip to Borra Caves. But we stopped at a few places on the way. The mountains were SO beautiful and cool! There are a lot of villages up there too, and surprisingly, Christian churches in the middle of nowhere. We saw lots of cows and monkeys.

This is a lookout point we stopped at:

We later stopped at a coffee plantation. This is where all the famous coffee beans come from. There was a small trail that led up a hill through the coffee plants and so we went up to explore. It was so lovely up there that I even took a video (see below)!

Next we went to Borra Caves. This is at an overlook of a river that comes out of the caves.

We paid a tour guide just over a dollar to take us through the cave and take our pictures. It was good we had him, because he pointed out a lot of rock formations that we would have missed.

This one looked like a brain!

Monkeys! They were actually kind of camera shy. Sometimes they would run away right after I pulled out my camera.

Random goats.

These beautiful sunset pictures were taken with Craig's camera. We watched the sunset outside of our hotel.

People were bringing in their cows for the day.

On Thursday morning we went on a hike to the top of a hill near our hotel. From the top you could see the whole valley. It was fun!

On Friday we left to go home to Vizag. Our train was late and so basically the whole day was a day of waiting--needless to say I got a little grumpy and was so tired when we got home late that night. Araku Valley was an awesome, relaxing trip and I was glad to get an escape into the countryside!

  1. This trip was remarkable. I adore everything about it ...except the late train returning home....the countryside, the animals, the cave. Should like to have seen a picture of the cabbie and his cab.
