Our Apartment

Here in India we live in a complex called Lawson's Bay Colony. There is one main apartment where all of the BYU students meet to eat and socialize. There are two girls' apartments, one apartment for the two guys, and an apartment for Craig and I. I thought it might be interesting for you all to see what it looks like. Like I said earlier, this is considered to be a VERY nice place to live. After visiting people in their houses around Vizag, I now know they are right.

Our living room area:

When you walk in the front door:

This is our drinking water. Water is delivered to us whenever we run out. It seems to last about 4 days. The kitchen staff take care of everything.

Our bedroom. This mosquito net was already set up and so we haven't used the one we bought yet. I have seen very few mosquitos in general, but maybe they will increase once the weather gets hotter.

Our beds are two thin mattresses on top of each other with a blanket for a sheet and then another blanket.

In our apartment we have two bathrooms. We use this bathroom as the shower room. To bathe, you fill up the bucket with water, and then use the small pail to pour water over your body and then you wash. The water gets all over the floor, but it drains into the drain under the sink so it doesn't matter. We just shut the door so it doesn't get outside the bathroom. There is no hot water, but no one is complaining since it is warm enough here. It actually feels very good to bathe this way. It's very refreshing when you feel sweaty from all the humidity.

Our apartment has one western toilet. We do NOT use it because it does not work very well. We use this bathroom as the shower room.

We use this bathroom for the toilet. This is a traditional India toilet, where you squat and use the water from the bucket to wash. I'm still adjusting, but it's really not that bad. I do scrub my hands well afterwards though : )

This is a little hallway that leads to another room we hardly use. It also leads to a porch that overlooks our neighborhood. We are on the 4th floor.

I use this room for my clothes and stuff. It's just an empty room with these shelves.

I hope you enjoyed the tour!
